ASSISTANT

Transforming simple words from black & white to full color

I allow you to focus on the boulders rather than on the pebbles.

Many people could use more hours in their day. Delegating editorial and administrative tasks to an experienced professional would enable them to prioritize and focus on their main responsibilities. And better communication and organization will typically reduce stress levels by redeeming some priceless time each month. Sarah can be hired on retainer to be a client’s editorial assistant for four hours a week or month, lightening the load by eliminating the rocks in his or her bucket so that attention can be given to the client’s boulder or main thing.

While Sarah focuses on the editing of manuscripts and web content, she is also proficient at developing communication plans and email templates or promotional campaigns and materials for businesses and ministries at an hourly rate. Her editorial assistant services can be customized to fulfill a client’s unique editorial needs on an ongoing basis or to provide extra assistance on a particular project. Clients will find Sarah’s services to be flexible and efficient to meet the needs of their ministries or businesses that may not be able to hire a full-time editor.

Sarah brings degrees in both secretarial science and communication arts plus twenty-five years of experience to the table, and clients can benefit from her expertise while saving onsite payroll expenses and employee benefits. Clients do not pay contractors vacation or sick time, insurance benefits, employment taxes, or office supplies. What else? Contractors don’t get paid when business is slow or when they take lunch or make a call. Sarah will work extra hard as she is motivated to obtain the client’s ongoing opportunities and positive referrals.

Sarah’s editorial calendar may be booked several months ahead. While Sarah appreciates a client’s foresight to schedule projects as early as possible, she will always do her best to accommodate her client if she is able. Sarah will work with each client to customize a plan.

  • Ghost writing (thank you notes, holiday cards and personal correspondence)
  • Helping manage and clearly articulate the client’s unique brand and identity
  • Editing the client’s blog or website articles (that are hard to determine word count)
  • Composing email blasts and direct mail campaigns for special events
  • Formatting monthly e–newsletters via Constant Contact or MailChimp
  • Managing a client list and contacts in Constant Contact or MailChimp
  • Researching the internet for special projects and marketing
  • Creating reports or spreadsheets to organize the client’s data
  • Organizing and indexing the client’s electronic files online
  • Scanning and indexing the client’s paper files (Atlanta area only)
  • Transcription work (including manuscripts and query letters to publishers)
  • Updating, formatting and improving the content of a client’s résumé
  • Reviewing résumés and scheduling interviews for a client’s small business

Sarah’s rate is $40 per hour for editorial assistant services. Packages start at $200 for five hours of service to use throughout a month. Sarah’s rates for copy editing and copy writing services are based on word count; however, the editorial assistant hourly rate applies to projects where word count is more difficult to determine.
New clients will be presented with a retainer agreement to sign for dedicated monthly services. Sarah will track your billing in six-minute increments and email you a log when the retainer is exhausted. Rollover decisions on unused hours during a month will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. Once the retainer is initially signed, clients will receive invoices by email as needed. Each time hours are added to the retainer via an online payment, a FreshBooks service fee of 3 percent will be added to the invoice; however, a client may deduct the 3 percent online fee by submitting a check payable to “Hayhurst Editorial, LLC” to the address on the emailed invoice.
